Bring a blanket or get the VIP treatment during the 2012 summer season for the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival.

During the summer season, the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival will present two plays:  Much Ado About Nothing (July) and Measure for Measure (August).  Both performances will happen outdoors at Central Park, located at the corner of 4th and Magnolia Street in Old Louisville.

Much Ado About Nothing shows Claudio, a nobleman, who falls in love with Hero, the daughter of another respected nobleman.  Beatrice and Benedick, somewhere among their insults, also wind up falling in love.  However, Don John is looking to ruin whatever delightful plans the couples have.  The Shakespearean work will run from July 12-29.

Measure for Measure, meanwhile, centers on an arrest of a man who has violated the sexual activity laws in Vienna.  Lord Angelo, a strict temporary leader, has had the man arrested and sentenced to death.  Meanwhile, the real leader, the Duke, lurks about in disguise.  The Players Summer Conservatory students will perform this show from Aug. 2-5.

The curtain for both shows is at 8:30 p.m., but pre-show entertainment begins at 7 p.m.  The Sunfish Tumblers, improv troupe Damaged Goods, and music group The Neti Pots are among the acts to perform before Much Ado About Nothing.  A complete list can be found at the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival calendar page.

All of this is free to attend, so bring a blanket.  However, for the best seats as well as VIP treatment.  The VIP seats are $20 and include frozen drinks, wait service, and more advantages.  VIP seating can be purchased by calling the Shakespeare Festival at 502-574-9900.

Finally, no theatre shows will take place on Monday nights.  However, there will be free movie nights on Mondays during July.  Shakespeare in Love, Anonymous, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? will be shown during those nights.
