THE WOMAN IN BLACK CAST BIOS
Zachary Burrell, The Actor
Zach has appeared in many of Kentucky Shakespeare’s October indoor shows: Enter Ghost, Turning of the Screw, Titus Andronius. He’s a regular on the summer festival stage, including Henry V (Henry V), Henry IV Part One and Part Two (Prince Hal), Shakespeare in Love (Lord Wessex), Twelfth Night (Sebastian), Romeo and Juliet (Paris), and Two Gentlemen of Verona (Valentine). He’s done several spring tours and the indoor Pride and Prejudice (Darcy) and Shakespeare’s R&J (Student 3). He has also worked with Pandora Productions, StageOne, Derby Dinner Playhouse, and Theatre [502]. He has toured internationally with Artspot, a Buenos Aires based theatre company. The two summers (2017 and 2023) you didn’t see him in the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival he was taking time off to be with his new kiddos – he’s got two now! Zach is also a local photographer, and he thanks everyone for supporting local theatre.
Jon Huffman, Arthur Kipps
In four different decades, Jon has played roles at Kentucky Shakespeare ranging from Iago in Othello and Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet to Claudius in Hamlet, Malvolio in 12th Night, and the title roles in King Lear and Titus Andronicus. Jon has also acted locally at Actors Theatre and StageOne Family Theatre. He’s played dozens of television roles, including series regular (Bobby Lee Cooper) on Days of Our Lives, and the recurring Officer Shane on Designing Women. On film, Jon has acted with Jeremy Irons (Lolita), Laurence Fishburne (Fled), Donald Sutherland (The Hunley), James Earl Jones (Timepiece), and Jodie Foster (Little Man Tate). A Washington DC native and a proud Old Louisville resident, Jon is also a screenwriter – Conviction (Paramount), Lep In The Hood (Trimark) – and a playwright (CLUB MOROCCO, A Swing-Music Musical). In his spare time, Jon is Chief Servant to two very demanding cats and to Charles LittleHead, a crazy Jack Russell Terrier.

Matt Wallace, Director/Producing Artistic Director
Since 2013 Matt has served as Producing Artistic Director of Kentucky Shakespeare, where he has directed productions including Love’s Labor’s Lost, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Enter Ghost. an immersive haunted Hamlet experience, Shakespeare’s R&J, Twelfth Night, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Turn of the Screw, Shakespeare in Love, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot: Macbeth, As You Like It, King Lear, The Comedy of Errors, Othello, Titus Andronicus, Much Ado About Nothing, Julius Caesar, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, Hamlet, and Richard III. Favorite acting credits with the company since 2001 include the Player and Guildenstern in productions of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and Orlando in As You Like It. Since 2008, Matt has been Director of Shakespeare Behind Bars Kentucky Programs and facilitated the program at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex. Previously, he served as an Artistic Associate with Kentucky Shakespeare, was an actor and Director of Children’s Theatre at Derby Dinner Playhouse, and directed and performed at Chicago theaters. Film and TV credits include roles in The Perfect Gift, 1 Message, and Forrest Gump. Matt was in the inaugural class of Alden Fellows at the Community Foundation of Louisville and is recipient of the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts Marlene M. Helm Alumni Award, Fund for the Arts Allan Cowen Innovation Award, Arts-Louisville Awards for Best Direction, and the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency Volunteer of the Year Award for Outstanding Service and Commitment to the Kentucky Criminal Justice System.
Jesse AlFord, Lighting Designer
Jesse is a freelance lighting designer based here in Louisville, and is always excited to collaborate with Kentucky Shakespeare, having recently designed the immersive Enter Ghost., the drive-in production of Macbeth, as well as co-designing Turn of the Screw and Henry VI: Wars of the Roses with Lindsay Krupski. He is the Lighting Director and Resident Lighting Designer at the Louisville Ballet, and designs regularly with The Kentucky Opera, The Va Va Vixens, Circus Flora, Pandora Productions, and more. Working primarily in dance, circus, and theatre, Jesse specializes in the moments and productions that happen in between those disciplines.
Karl Anderson, Set Designer
Karl’s previously designed (non-Central Park) shows include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Macbeth, Turn of the Screw, and Enter Ghost. for Kentucky Shakespeare and he is pleased to work with this renowned group again. Karl has designed many sets for StageOne Family Theatre, most recently Dragons Love Tacos, Hamlet, and James and the Giant Peach. He has also designed numerous shows such as Sleep Rock Thy Brain for Actors Theatre of Louisville, sets for many Apprentice/Intern productions at ATL, Assassins, Tommy, and Sweeney Todd for CenterStage, and many seasons for Pandora Productions, Theatre [502], and Bunbury Theatre. He also designed Three Decembers for Kentucky Opera. He graduated from UK with a B.F.A. in theatre design and technology. He is also currently making fine-art paintings and pet portraits, IG@karlandersonart, and is represented by Kore Gallery.
Donna Lawrence-Downs, Costume Designer
Donna has designed the costumes for Kentucky Shakespeare for the last ten seasons, including all the summer festival productions as well as all fall and spring tours, Enter Ghost., Turn of the Screw, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot: Macbeth and the indoor Titus Andronicus, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, Twelfth Night, The War of the Worlds, and Night of the Living Dead. Donna has designed over 400 shows for more than 31 theaters in her 35-year career, including a stint at KSF in the 1990’s, and StageOne Family Theatre, Music Theatre Louisville, CenterStage, Bellarmine University, Louisville Ballet, Kentucky Opera, and Pandora Productions. One of Donna’s favorite projects is designing costumes for Shakespeare Behind Bars, which she has done for the last 11 years. Donna and her husband also own Life is Sweet Small Batch Treats Bakery.
Laura Ellis, Sound Designer
Laura is a Peabody Award-winning audio producer who started working with Kentucky Shakespeare in 2018. Since then, she’s sound designed all mainstage shows, and other various theatrical adventures in parking lots, converted warehouses, and radio stations (you may remember her from her stint as Lead Spaghetti Squisher in War of the Worlds and Night of the Living Dead). When she’s not in a theater or a park, she makes podcasts and writes a podcasting advice column for Louisville Public Media. Her favorite role is “Maw,” the devoted matriarch of Kentucky Shakespeare alum, Barkley Ellis.
Joy Lanceta Coronel, Dialect Coach
Joy is thrilled to be working with KY Shakespeare. New York Theatre credits include The Great Leap and Nomad Motel at Atlantic Theatre Company, Among the Dead and Once Upon a (Korean) Time at Ma-Yi Theatre, and additional collaborations with Comedy Central, NAATCO, and New Dramatists. Select regional credits include The Sins of Sor Juana, Smart People, and Sense & Sensibility at American Players Theatre, Dracula at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Chonburi International Hotel & Butterfly Club at Williamstown Festival, and The King and I at Drury Lane. In addition to coaching, Joy is a teacher, researcher, and award-winning writer focused on topics related to accent work, identity, cultural sensitivity, and equitable coaching practices. www.joylancetacoronel.com
Ryan Bennett, Stage Manager/Properties Director
Ryan is pleased to return for another production with Kentucky Shakespeare after having served as this past summer’s production manager and the stage manager of Enter Ghost. He has previously stage managed with Kentucky Shakespeare, Redline Performing Arts, and Pandora Productions. His prop work has been seen with Kentucky Shakespeare, Pandora Productions, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. Ryan, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, thanks his friends and family for their continuing support.
Lindsay Krupski, Lighting Supervisor
Lindsay is a freelance lighting designer/electrician, and she is delighted for another spooky show with Kentucky Shakespeare! With KY Shakes, she worked in the park for the 2019 – 2023 seasons and she also worked on Enter Ghost., Shakespeare’s R&J, Henry VI: The Wars of the Roses, The Turn of the Screw, and Shakespeare in the Parking Lot: Macbeth. Since moving to Louisville 5 years ago, she has designed with many local companies and is currently the resident lighting designer at StageOne Family Theatre. Lindsay grew up in Wisconsin and holds a B.F.A. from UW-Milwaukee. In her free time, Lindsay loves crocheting and listening to Taylor Swift.
Gregory Maupin, Understudy
Gregory is thrilled as always to return to Kentucky Shakespeare. He and his wife Abigail are Prohibition ukulele duo Rannygazoo and in 2004 co-founded Louisville’s Le Petomane Theatre Ensemble. He is a charter member of Brooklyn’s Under the Table Ensemble and co-founder of the Church of Grover’s Corners. Kentucky Shakespeare appearances include: Love’s Labor’s Lost (Berowne) Twelfth Night (Feste 2022; Malvolio 2016), Much Ado About Nothing (Benedick), Pride & Prejudice (Mr. Bennet, Charlotte), Midsummer (Bottom). Taming of the Shrew (Petruchio), As You Like It (Touchstone), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (Guildenstern). With Actors Theatre: A Christmas Carol: GhostStory (solo) Luna Gale (Cliff), At the Vanishing Point (Martin), Our Town (Simon Stimson), Midsummer (Flute), Macbeth, 43 Plays for 43 Presidents. With the Dell’Arte Company: Vaudeville (co-creator). Gregory graduated from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre.

Kentucky Shakespeare serves communities through the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park, education programs in schools, public performances, and community outreach programs. As the most comprehensive in-school arts education provider in the Commonwealth, Kentucky Shakespeare serves schools throughout the region with interactive educational programming directly tied to academic standards, helping impact student achievement. Our many community programs explore conflict resolution, empathy building, and communication, in a range of settings from preschools to senior centers.
